Libby Walker tells us more about herself and her work:

I’m a Glasgow based illustrator working from my Briggait Wasps studio. Fantastic building. I graduated in 2009 with a BA(Hons) Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art.

Kelvingrove Park

I’m lucky enough to be self-employed and still paying my rent. It took some time though, juggling part time jobs and illustration until a year ago when I went solo. I work creating prints and cards for retail and creating private commissions. I also work on commercial illustration work, this includes packaging, advertising, album, book artwork and more. My cards can be found in many shops – a few favourites are; Welcome Home at CCA, The Shop of Interest, The Red Door Gallery and most recently Waterstones on Sauchiehall Street.

Lion

I work with indian ink, fine liner pen and gouache paint. For my card designs I mainly capture places in Glasgow that I have a personal connection with, that has been the West End of Glasgow until a recent move to the Southside. I enjoy creating compositions featuring bars, restaurants and icons people can associate with. I do this mainly with black ink and using spots of colour to help with the composition. I enjoy adding a lot of detail, liking the idea of the viewer finding something they hadn’t spotted before.

I don’t have a typical day as such, depending on projects, meetings, deliveries, postoffice runs etc. I do always start the day with walking to the studio for 10/11 and stay until about 7. I then can work at home in the evenings if need be. I keep my computer there so my studio is a paint/BBC 6 music only zone.

Glasgow University

I have a few projects coming up. On the 1st of March I shall be live painting in the Jo Malone store. This will be painted onto their packaging as part of the launch of the limited edition ‘London Rain’ range. A bit nerve-racking but brilliant. I shall also be showing in Edinburgh as part of the Hidden Door Festival in April. This will be an extension of a collaborated project I completed last year. This was ‘All At Sea‘ where I created an animation and artwork for and in collaboration with Richy Carey and Martin Froden. The ‘All at Sea’ Publication can be purchased here.
