MerzBank

What:
Kurt Schwitters’ art is an inspiration to many artists. He named his distinctive found material ‘Merz’, after a fragment of the German word ‘Commerzbank’. MerzBank is an online repository of artists’ works who have all taken inspiration from Schwitters.

Newly commissioned works by Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson, Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard and Alec Finlay can be found on the site. Reflecting Schwitters’ style, these works combine and communicating images, texts and sounds. Using various different social media platforms such as Pinterest to find and assemble material, or experimenting with other digital media such as downloads and apps, the pieces demonstrate how Schwitters’ practice continues to inspire today’s artists.

MerzBank is produced by Film and Video Umbrella and supported by Arts Council England.
