As promised, we have two cash prizes of £500 to give away. These are: the Judges Choice Award, and the Self-promotion Award, given to the featured artist who made the most out of their social media spaces to let people know about the feature and promote their work.

The Judges Choice was selected by:

And the winner is…

The work of Vienna-based Atelier Olschinsky was universally admired by the judges. They felt the quality and range of work from this small studio was extraordinary. From illustration and photography to print design and typography their projects display great depth and beauty and as a body of work were felt to be incredibly distinct.

And the winner of the self-promotion award is…

On Day 34 we featured Nick Cocozza, and for many, many days afterwards we would notice tweets from Nick linking back to his feature. Then we’d notice Nick commenting and supporting other 50×50 artists on Facebook. And then we noticed that Nick’s feature on Day 34 was getting more and more views & more and more comments. Nick was doing something right. And Nick has won himself £500 for being pro-active and getting noticed not only by us by the public. Congratulations Nick.

Peterborough based Dominic Le-Hair is a designer with a thing for typography. We came across this project on both our Vimeo & Behance networks and knew that it needed to be shared.

If you are wondering how the piece was achieved, Dominic explains:
“Rubber magnets were cut out with an X-Acto knife and attached to a sheet of paper. Another piece of paper was then laid on top of this. The iron filings were sprinkled from a shaker and attracted to the magnets creating lyrics from the Bonnie “Prince” Billy song – ‘Even if Love’ ”

Matt Saunders (aka rabbitportal) is a freelance illustrator/director/animator/editor currently based in Leeds.

Last year, Matt was selected by New Era caps to customise one of their hats. Using a few thousand match sticks this is what he produced. Here’s a film of the hat’s creation:

The piece is currently on tour, heading to Cape Town in February and Dubai in the future.

Rosemary Head is a recent graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

This is what Rosemary says about her work:
“Working with clay is both a passion and a pleasure. I coil-build my pieces before carving through to reveal glimpses of the hollow center. Both the process and the ceramic pieces are extremely tactile, and I like to invite people to touch or hold them as part of their being on display.”

Ian Anderson is a film/video creative who has worked on a broad range of projects from TV commercials and music videos, to short films and fashion pieces. We came across his “My Cool Campervan Project” on our Cargo network and were intrigued.

Here is what Ian has to say about the project:
“My Cool Campervan is a lifestyle book that celebrates those who have made exceptional use of their motorhomes, and one of the authors, Jane Field-Lewis, asked me to make a film about some of the participants…The result was a short documentary about a couple who had a Volkswagen Microbus, that looked every inch the same vehicle as when it rolled out of the Hamburg factory in 1965.”

“my work is generally created through ideas of anti establishment as well as exploring themes of identity, through the examination of electronic forms of identity including barcodes and binary, along with more aesthetic manmade methods of identity such as graffiti and the use of language and poetry.”

Edinburgh based Julia McLean is a trained stop frame animator and model maker.

In 2008 Julia was commissioned to write, direct and animate ‘The Finger Trap’, a short stop frame production which went on to win the Scottish BAFTA New Talent Award for Best Animation in 2009.
