Playdead is a design studio based in Glasgow, Scotland. They specialise in the creation of motion graphics, working on commissions for television and film, architectural firms, corporate clients and the public sector. Skilled in animation, 3D, 2D, visual effects and live action production, they tailor their approach and mesh techniques to tell stories through moving images, also developing and experimenting with new techniques through their own projects.

‘Free Desk Here’ is brought to you by Open Studio Club and is supported by graphic artist, Anthony Burrill.

They’re asking creative agencies to offer a free desk in their studio to a new creative talent. It’s all in the spirit of collaboration, giving agencies the opportunity to invite a new person into their studio to share ideas and new ways of thinking. Many of the studios taking part are looking for creatives outside the agency’s core discipline.

“There’s a global digital agency taking part that’s offering a free desk to a product designer. They want to invite someone into their studio that makes physical things as a change to the digital work they do. I’m personally very grateful to all the agencies taking part in ‘Free Desk Here’. Big thanks also goes to Anthony Burrill who was the first to back the idea several months ago. Free Desk Here isn’t about charity. It’s about collaboration. It’s taking an existing, high value commodity that seriously under-utilised in lots of agencies – space. I hope it inspires other agencies to get involved. We’ll see what happens.” Says Nick Couch, Founder of Open Studio Club.

Everyday for the next 2 weeks Open Studio Club will release a new free desk from a group of award winning creative agencies from around the world that are supporting the campaign. Their first agency to list is Moving Brands in London.

All agencies are invited to take part if they have a free desk available. The first 50 agencies to list a free desk on openstudioclub.com will receive a signed, limited edition Anthony Burrill screen print.

They design and create beautiful exclusive Print Designs for the Womenswear Fashion Market keeping their worldwide client base in mind. Their print designs are created for clothing, accessories, swimwear and lingerie and are produced using traditional hand painting techniques along with cutting edge computer technology. This, coupled with inspiration drawn from current catwalk trends, allows them to create a product which is one of a kind and appeals to everyone from high end to high street companies.

“A mix of college / art school transitional positions…

01_ Weekend teller at my local Co-Op bank. Was wearing the mode du jour mohican, shaved on one side of my head which led to some cunning Bobby Charlton type comb overs every Saturday morning.

02_ Medical model. Involved stripping to my undies for a room full of trainee doctors in hotel conference suites whilst they pushed and prodded joints and musculature. They said they were doctors…

03_ Beach seller – Canet Plage, Perpignan. To the cries of “ Chouchous, beignets, boissons fraîches”, long, sticky days traipsing up and down the beach with a pair of refrigerated coolboxes punting drinks and funny little caramalised nuts to the locals and confused 18-30 types. Couldn’t afford the anglo campsite so reduced to sleeping on the roof of the lifeguards hut every night. Happy days.

04_ Parky, Saltdean Lido. Brighton. Dream job as a park keeper rising early to walk to work along the Brighton Coast. Morning spent dragging tennis courts and then a quick spin on the petrol driven mower before an afternoon keeping watch on the sunbathers at the modernistic masterpiece that is Saltdean’s 1930′s open air swimming pool. Get orf my grass!

05_The List street seller, Edinburgh Festival. First job out of Art School. After being told by my course head I was unemployable I grabbed the prime patch at the Assembly Rooms and set out to prove him wrong. 6 weeks later crowned top seller, given a big bottle of Morgans Spiced and free tickets to see Dennis Leary’s first UK gigs off comedy legend Tommy Cockles.
