Engaging with Sound takes a look at pedagogy and workshop leading as a creative practice
25min, 2010

‘Engaging with Sound’ is a short documentary exploring pedagogy and sound practice through interviews with professional artists and workshop leaders. The documentary explores learning and participation as a model for creative practice, and as a challenge to traditional one-way presentation models such as exhibitions and performances.

‘Engaging with Sound’ explores how artistic production is experienced through a collaborative process. How do artists and workshop leaders understand their careers and artistic practice between performing and workshop leading? How can pedagogy be creative? What is the relationship between the participants and workshop leaders? What makes a good learning environment? How has new technology had an impact in this way of working?

‘Engaging with Sound’ explores pedagogical practices with a belief in the sharing of ideas and knowledge in open platforms that encourage learning between diverse individuals and facilitate learning, participation and creativity. ‘Engaging with Sound’ is a documentary for artists working with sound to explore possibilities through workshop leading, not only as a means of sustaining their practice, but as a model where pedagogy becomes integral within artistic practice. ‘Engaging with Sound’ will be featured on the Sound and Music’s web platform for Learning and Creative Resources for creative professionals to reflect on their practice and careers as artists, practitioners and educators. The documentary will also provide insight for arts managers and producers in considering their learning and creative programming.
