Day Job is a young collective of recently graduated illustrators working together. Member, Grace Helmer tells us more…
Day Job is an illustration studio based in Peckham, South London, comprised of 10 recent graduates from Camberwell College of Arts. Alongside our own work we collaborate on bigger group projects, working with a range of media including print, digital, ceramics, and 3D installation.
We were all in the same class at Camberwell and always ended up working alongside each other in the studios and on group projects and shows whilst we were at university. It seemed natural to carry this on after we graduated last summer, and so the day we took down our degree show we moved into our studio in Peckham. Having a space to discuss our work and share our ideas was motivating and this then prompted us to do work together.
Although we’re still about 6 months young we’ve made two publications together, and we had our first exhibition, ‘Day Job Toy Shop‘ at Pick Me Up at Somerset House in April. This involved toys, prints, workshops and Kids TV!
Separately we all work as freelance illustrators (as well as our actual day jobs), and as a group combine our skills for bigger projects like installation, set design and curation.
Day Job is Joshua Checkley, Daniel Clarke, Aaron Cook, Grace Helmer, Katie Johnston, Charlene Man, Charlotte Mei, Ella McLean, Peter Rhodes and Victoria Willmott.
